Now that we’ve eliminated any other general causes for not losing weight or what you might feel are slow losses on the hCG diet protocol for a few days (as seen in Part 1 here), lets get to what’s probably the case for the majority of people:
How Are You Looking At Your Weight Loss?
The first thing I ask someone who’s come to me saying they aren’t losing weight is:
1. how many pounds have you lost so far?
2. And how many days have you been on the diet?
Usually the response is something like, “it’s vlcd 15 and I’ve lost 14.6 lbs.” This woman has lost over 14 lbs in 14 days folks! She has a 1lb/day average at this point. This is phenomenal!
Yet, she was looking at the past 3 days or so and seeing that she gained .2 lbs one day, then lost nothing the following 2 days after that (don’t feel bad if you are one of the people whose emailed me about this- you are not alone! Many have, so I thought it would make the perfect topic for an article). And when it’s your first time on the protocol, and you’re not quite sure what to expect, this can be unsettling.
But see what happens is sometimes we forget to look at the overall picture.
In reality, the overall average weight loss for women on this diet plan is actually about .5/lb day. This doesn’t mean you will lose exactly 1/2 a pound each day- it means that throughout the course of the 3 or 6 weeks you are on the protocol, you will lose nothing some days, and you will lose 2 lbs overnight some days, and so on, so that by the end of the protocol, whether with drops, pellets, or HCG Injections in one round, you’ll have typically lost around 20 lbs in 40 days or so- sometimes women lose more than this, sometimes less. I’d like to add to this I have a MUCH more detailed article the science of why this is so in my hCG diet workbook – but the point is……
Reason 5: Our Bodies Aren’t Machines
If you lose 14 lbs in 14 days say, your body may now be playing a little catch up- which is basically a phrase to say that I have no idea what your body is actually doing, but I know that a body can’t just continually lose a consistent amount of weight day in and day out without sometimes having periods where the scale doesn’t really move. That’s just how it happens.
If any of you have watched The Biggest Loser show, it happens to them too! You see them working their bottoms off all week, exercising seemingly 10 hours a day for 7 days, and then some weeks they lose 12 lbs and other weeks they lose 2 lbs- even though the effort put into each of those weeks was exactly the same. Why is this? Who knows (maybe a real trainer could tell ya), but the point is, our bodies don’t work like clockwork in this manner.
Our bodies are actually designed to live in a state of homeostasis- it tries to keep things the same– our blood pressure, our daily temperature, our heart rate. When making such a drastic change to our body while on the diet, you will come to find it’s totally normal to have short periods of time, even up to a week sometimes, where there is little or no weight loss.
Even weight loss on different rounds of the protocol will vary.
No doubt you gained weight inconsistently to start with right? You didn’t just start overeating and gain exactly .3 lb’s per day for a year right? In fact, there have been periods in my life where I’ve eaten in an unhealthy way and gained weight very quickly, like 8-10 lbs in just one month, then other periods where I was eating pretty much the same, but didn’t really gain any weight at all for months- I was already quite overweight and it was my like my body was kind of “set” where it was.
Look At the Big Picture
So whenever you are feeling discouraged over not losing weight sometimes,
take stock of how your whole round on the protocol has gone so far.
Most likely you have accomplished more than you realize already.
Inspired Girl has some additional thoughts about this big picture idea when it comes to hCG Diet Weight Loss. Please check it out – it can be easy to brush off these things as not mattering, but in reality, coming to grips with food and seeing the overall picture is the only way I didn’t give up and the only way I’ve been able to maintain my weight loss these past several years.

pretty frustrated. I purchased from Diet Doc. I gained a lot of weight during loading despite doing a “clean load”. i normally don’t eat that much food- have always been a low carber/no sugar.
I’m on day 5 of phase 1 and have lost 2 lbs only. what gives? i’m not cheating and i’ve stopped exercising for this protocol which is not making me feel great- feeling super puffy and weird, like i’m carrying weight in places i don’t normally from skipping cardio.
i’ve read most people stall in their 2nd week, not their first. i’m getting very demoralized. i only have 14 lbs i want to lose but this is beginning to feel counterproductive. if i keep that this rate, assuming i keep at this rate, i’ll lose 6 lbs total. doesn’t exactly seem worth it when i could’ve skipped the $250 investment and biked that off over 3 months.
has anyone lost MORE weight in the 2nd week?
Li-An says
Hi Stephanie,
For people with less weight to lose, this result is quite normal! That would actually mean 0.4lb/day loss which is the average- which means what you’re doing is not counterproductive at all. People who are closer to their goal weight cannot compare with those who need to lose 20-50lbs or more. I am not very sure, but I think losing more on the 2nd week would be very rare and we’d also love to know if there are ladies who did!

Violet says
I’m so frustrated. I’ve lost 37 lbs on my 45 day round. Tomorrow is my last injection and, despite apple day (s) and doubling up injections–after which I lost 1lb and then gained .6 back the next day–I’ve been stalled at the same weight for a week. Have I become immune to HCG? When I return after my break will I be able to lose like I initially did or will it be one big stall again?
Li-An says
Hi Violet, this is Li-an. Rayzel’s assistant! Nice to meet you! 37lbs in 45 days is amazing! That would mean about 1.2lb a day and tell you what, the average weight loss per day is at 0.4lb, you’ve multiplied it by 3! Fluctuations are quite normal in the latter part of the round and also it gets really really slow as you get leaner. Another thing you should look at would be your inch loss. The weight loss is quick in the beginning coz it includes a lot of water weight loss. It’s not really getting immune to hCG also because hCG is not the one that causes the weight loss in the beginning! hCG is there to help you with the hunger (it is impossible to be on VLCD when you’re hungry!) & to prevent muscle loss.
Hope that helps!

hello,
I love your page and see how this has brought me a lot of hope. haha.
I have done the HCG diet multiple times and I actually do the HCG drops, not injections
I am on day 13 and only down 9lb. I DID and do acknowledge I did had a cheat meal on day 8. I did gain 3 lbs the next morning. Over the course of 5 days I haven’t lost anything but 1lb. Kind of discouraging, I haven’t cheated at all, but that one night and I didn’t realize how detrimental to the body it is. I have NEVER ever cheated on my diet for as many times as I’ve done this. Previously I lost almost 20lb in 2 1/2 weeks and did not cheat once. This session is not so successful.
So my question is, how do I get my body back on the track and start losing weight again.
I did see your yogurt trick I am not allowed to eat that at all on my drops. Not sure why but a lot of my “HCG Diet Approved list” of foods are a lot less options. Which is even harder, so I am honestly eating only chicken breast and shrimp cabbage and broccoli every meals . its getting really OLD. so very irritating by not losing any weight after pretty much not looking forward to your one small meal you get through out the day.
So I am almost half way done with the VLCD days and I have only lost total of 9lb and haven’t lost anything in 5 days…. What is your advice.
Thank You
Cristel says
Hi Molly!
This is Cristel, Rayzel`s assistant. Nice to meet you” 🙂
9lbs in 13 days is still a great loss. The average weight loss women experience on this diet ends up being about a 1/2 lb a day – and if you think about it, this makes sense. To lose 1 lb of fat every day, your body would have to burn 4000 calories a day (3500 calories per pound of fat, plus the 500 calories you are eating on the diet). Anyway, I hope that helps give you some perspective. Please keep in mind this doesn’t translate into actually losing 1/2 a lb every single day- some day you might lose 1.5 lbs, other days zero – in the end, it usually averages out to about .30-.65 lbs per day.
Also, are there any foods you are having every day on the protocol? If so, it would be worth removing them and changing it up a bit- sometimes people have a sensitivity to a food and it does indeed stall them- weird- cabbage, tomatoes, and beef are common stall causers for some on hCG.
I don’t know what else to suggest at this point, outside of the idea that perhaps you’re body is kind of resisting a bit now and maybe you need a break. Although Dr. S did describe long 2 week stalls at times when people reached previous set points- not sure if that could possibly be the case there.

Hope that helps!

Hi, I just started my first protocol using HCG. My starting weight is 200.2 and gained 5.2 pounds after the loading days. I lost 3.6 pounds after my first VLCD and then went down and up .2 pounds the following days. I’m now a week since my first HCG injection and am back at my starting weight. Is it normal to be 7 days into the diet and not see any losses in weight?

I’m feeling a little discouraged and would like some advice. I did the HCG diet over a year ago and did really well on it however the clinic I went to did not put me on a maintainenace program so of course I gained my weight back.
I started HCG again on Tuesday the 15th of August, I have eaten the approved items on the list and also some of the HCG recipes I found on line. My starting weight before the HCG was 147.2 (after my load it was 151) it’s been over a week and I’ve only lost 2.2 lbs and nothing yesterday. What am I doing wrong?
Gen, hCGChica team buddy says
Hi Diane,
Can I ask you a few questions to troubleshoot?
– How much would you say you currently have left to lose?
– What food did you eat while on P2?
Rayzel has a post about the basics of P2 which includes a list of approved food. You can find it here: http://hcgchica.com/phase-2-hcg-diet-basics-very-low-calorie-diet/

My goal is to be at 120-125. I would like to lose more than my goal just to given a little buffer. I’m getting married in March and of course like any bride want to look my best.
I’m assuming I’m still on Phase 2 since I’m just going into my second week. I have chicken or filet mostly chicken, lettuce, apples, I was having the breadsticks but took that our of the diet and took the milk in my coffee out of the diet just recently. I have the list from the original diet that I am following
Gen, hCGChica team buddy says
Hi Diane,
If you have been following the diet and not losing much on the first week, there might be some other reason you’re not losing weight. hCG doesn’t cause you to lose weight, which is a commonly misunderstood thing. Your own body loses weight as a result of the 500 calorie diet. Even with NO hCG a person whose body is in correct operating condition should lose the same amount of weight – that’s why this indicates to me that something else is going on in your body right now that’s preventing a more normal pace of weight loss. It sounds like some hormone levels being off in your body and metabolism that needs to be addressed. What hCG’s role is in the diet is to curb hunger and preserve muscle mass so that you are losing fat and not muscle. And the dosage typically needs to be played with like Rayzel’s article here: hcgchica.com/dosage when the hunger thing is not where it needs to be on the diet. Rayzel has an article on researching hormonal imbalance and figuring this out to help you get started with that. You can find it here: http://hcgchica.com/how-to-learn-about-hormone-problems/
Hope that helps 🙂

Hi Darcie!
I know this protocol can be very hard. Maybe Rayzel’s blog posts here can somehow help:

If you’re having a hard time with the foods because you don’t live in US, try to find something that you can substitute some of them. Keep it simple and you can do it.

Hey there. Would love help. No cheating going on here and I’ve only lost 3-4 pounds in 2 weeks. I even did an apple day two days ago to combat the problem. Chicken, cod, broccoli, asparagus, strawberries, an apple, stevia, a cup of earl grey – that’s my normal day. Used some organic chicken broth today that had almost no fat in order to create a soup with chicken and broccoli. No oils in product, not cooking with oil… Totally stumped.
hcgchica's helper says

Isabel says
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am definitely having the same foods every day, because there is no way I can get to the 500 calorie mark on this diet without them. I tried doing spinach one day, doing a large salad and it was impossible. No way to eat enough spinach to get me there. Or cabbage. So I finally just starting doing broccoli with one meal and asparagus with the other. And I usually do chicken with each meal. I can’t figure out how else to do the protocol.
Debra says
Was on day 3 of HCG injections and VLCD yesterday. 3 year old grand daughter was visiting and came down with bad stomach flu and now I have it. I feel dehydrated somewhat as I havent been able to keep anything in my stomach and also have severe diarrhea. Should I take the shot today and try to maintain the diet after my sypmtoms leave? Our grand daughter is still experiencing diarrhea and it’s day 3 for her. My husband has also come down with it, so I’m quite sure it doesn’t have anything to do with the HCG. I guess my question is, should I start over and reload for the diet portion and use the remainder of the HCG after I feel well enough, continue on. This is Sunday morning and the doctor that prescribed the HCG/diet for me is not available until Monday morning.
Gen, hCGChica team buddy says
Hi Debra,
Really sorry for the late reply. I know you would have already finished your round by the time you get this but I’ll go ahead and answer your question. It is true that sometimes when sick with the flu you can feel really weak and crummy on hCG and getting well can be difficult on this diet. Some do have abort their rounds early because being sick and on a diet like this often don’t mix well. People just end up staying sick sometimes. It may be best to get off as it may be hard to get well while being on the diet if you’re sick. When you do stop the hCG, it takes 72 hours to fully leave your system and during this time, your body will still be more sensitive than usual to fats and calories so try to stick to Phase 2 foods as you come off, just increase the calories as needed. After 72 hours, the hCG will be gone and you can eat what you feel is best.

Hi, I am TOTALLY devastated… this is around my 6/7 round… and have waited the 6 months needed to start the next cycle…However in this cycle I have 2 weeks left to finish a 43 cycle and have lost only 6 lbs… i was advised to do a cheat meal which made me gain 2.5 lbs and now can’t even take those off… during this cycle i did an apple day and lost 3.5 lbs on the last plateau and gained 1 back… then get stuck at the new weight again… now i’m over where i was stuck because of the cheat meal and can’t take it off… I’m confused, upset, devastated and just discouraged… in the past i have been relatively successful and this cycle has been nothing but a disaster doing EVERYTHING correctly, no cheating, drinking all the water, counting 500 cal… and nothing… i’m even starting to feel depressed because i feel like a failure and am actually mad at my body at this point… don’t know how to get myself out of this funk, or what to do to help my body… my body is like a baby… you know something is wrong when they cry but they can’t tell you and i feel the same about my body…it’s telling me something is wrong because i’m not losing, but I CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHY… Ugh! I’m so frustrated… your 5 reasons for stalling, I’ve checked out and none apply… all is good… something wrong with me? At this point i will never hit my goal… :*(
Gen, hCGChica team buddy says
Hi Jewels,
I’m so sorry you’re struggling so badly. Are you using real hCG injections or homeopathic hCG? I don’t know exactly why it doesn’t seem to be working too well for you right now. It sounds like there may be some other hormone issues going on – Rayzel has a post about this to help you do more research and get to the bottom of it if that’s what it is. You can find her post here: http://hcgchica.com/how-to-learn-about-hormone-problems/
That’s all we can think of to help at the moment, we’re sorry.

My life has been super busy this last week. I know this is horrible, but I have eaten out twice a day for this whole week. However, I have been super careful of what I order and eat. I’ve Googled all of the nutritional values of everything. Could this be my stall? I still have 40+ lbs to go. I stick to protocol by the letter and have cut out fruit since 2 days ago and today I went up 1 1/2 pounds. Does any one have any idea as to why? Is my body use to the drops and are they not working any more? This is not how I wanted to end P2….. Frustrating

Hi. I’m finding it difficult to lose weight on HCG. I’ve tried it in the past three times. The first 2 times were great with amazing results, me. 14 lbs and then 10 pounds but the 3rd attempt was nothing. I ended up gaining weight. Is it possible to become immune to the HCG? Or is it possible that my body has grown used to the drops? Mind you these attempts have been over the years. Not all in one year. I’m trying it again and I’m on day 7 of P2. I’m down a whopping 4 pounds but in actuality I’m back to my starting weight because I gained 4 pounds on the gorging stage. This is very frustrating. I’m not a big girl and have maybe 10 pounds to lose. I’m recovering from shoulder surgery and I just wanted something to get the extra weight, for my body, off. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I’m about to start R1 of the HCG Diet. I’ve read your book over and over again. One question – about exercise during the diet. I am 170 and would like to get down to 125. I have been riding my recumbent bicycle for 1.5 hours almost daily for the past 4 months and I LOVE IT. It makes me feel great. I don’t think it’s strenuous but I have been able to take off a few pounds simply being more active. I’m 69 years old and bike riding feels great to me. Can I still continue to ride my bike while on the HCG Diet? I’m not going to go back to the gym to do strength building until I’m done with R1,P3…..but can I still ride my bike during P2???? Mi name is Caroll Kock and I just received my HCG-drops. My daughter and I are starting this Sunday (Oct. 11, 2015) with the protocol. Since I have a lot to lose (close to 100 lbs!) I know I will have to do more rounds. That’s why I want to do the 43-day round. I have a question and I hope you can help me with an answer: I read on one of the websites about HCG that you should stop the drops when you period comes. Should I stop, then, at my first day? What experience do you have with this?
I think (and hope) that I am mentally prepared. I feel very motivated. I have done similar diets before with (obviously) limited results. So I am really hoping this diet delivers. Your video’s and your example are very inspiring to me.
I hope you can answer me. Thank you!

Hey @Teresa Taylor! Nice to meet you.Can you tell me a few things?

– Have you been attempting exercise on hCG?
– Are you sleeping at night?I will try to help if you can answer this for me. Thanks!Rayzel 2:28 a.m., Thursday July 23 | Other comments by HCGChica | |

Hi, Iv’e lost 30 lbs and Iv’e been on injections for exactly 6 weeks now (today is 6/10/15). I’m going to keep going another week and then take a three week break. Then I think I’ll do another round for 6 weeks. Thanks for all of the hard work you have put in on this website!
kathyw says
VGardner, this is improper use of the Protocol….have you ever read “Pounds and Inches?” Phase II is no more than 40 days with 6-weeks in between because the body can get used to the HCG so you need to give it a break. During the first 3 weeks you are changing your metabolism and solidfying what you did for the last 40 days, and the next 3 weeks are “real life” to help you adapt to your new way of eating. If you opt for three rounds, you must allow even more time in between each.

I cannot figure out why I have stalled. I have NOT exceeded my 500 cal diet, I have NOT cheated and I am very regular. I have been at the same weight for 3 days now. I am on day 25 and have only lost 12 lbs. Yesterday I had to combine my lunch protein with my dinner as the day got away from me. So is it possible to stall if you are under cal?
HCGChica says
Hi @Dixie – nice to meet you. 🙂
I know it can be hard to know what to expect based on what you might sometimes come across in your information search. In reality, 12 lbs in 25 days is excellent- this is about .5/day average, which is about what most women experience on the diet. Why does this make sense? Well, if it takes 3500 calories to burn about a lb of fat, and we are eating 500 calories a day as well, that means that to lose 1 lb of fat every day would require a woman burn 4000 calories a day. I don’t know any woman who does this. Most women burn probably somewhere between 1500-200 calories a day. So losing a half lb a day is actually about right. The next thing is, not losing weight for 3 days is quite normal as well. This can easily be caused by a little water retention, being premenstrual, not having a bowel movement for a few days, or just things balancing out (ie. if you lose more weight than usual on some days, it will balance out with lower losses other days at times). If you are hungry and feeling really drained however, yes it may be good to evaluate your calorie intake and your dosage. Have you seen my dosage article already? http://hcgchica.com/hcg-dosage-how-should-feel-on-the-hcg-diet-when-you-are-on-the-right-dose/ That might help you out. I hope that helps a little. Most of the time, it’s simply a matter of waiting it out. I’ve had multiple periods of no weight loss like you mention. They do pass, and then things continue as normal. It all works out in the end, and your 12 lbs in 25 days is actually very good, feel proud! – Rayzel
Lynn LadyLogos Rushton says
Well put, thanks. I’m very frustrated because I’ve followed exact protocal., but hadn’t lost anything in about a week and 3 days. I lost 2 lbs on the apple day, yet it came back the next day. However, looking at the big picture I’ve lost average 15 lbs in the 16 days I’ve been on it so far. Even though this week of not losing is killing me. I’m only going the 3 weeks. I’m only going the 3 weeks so hopefully i can release a few more. Then after my 3 week maintenence, I’ll start again. ……I need a break, Cause i need meat and cheese and watermelon lol!
Amber Brandenburg says
Hello there…I am glad I came across this particular post because I’ve been at a stall the last 2 days and was about to give up and go eat an eggs, toast and bacon breakfast…lol. (sorry to put that picture in your mind fellow hcgers) 😉 I’ve been super good too! Even with all the food I was tempted with at a family funeral yesterday…..Anyway, upon looking at my “big picture”…I realized I started the VLCD only 5 days ago…and lost 4 lbs…so, in reality… that’s .8 lbs a day! Well, most would see me and ask why I am even on this diet…as I am already fairly thin. My story is I am a model and my best “toned” weight is around 120. In fact, I had gotten to 119 lbs before using the HCG protocol… Lately I got up to over 130 because of an injury and having to sit long periods…and what else is there to do when sitting around…eat and watch TV..ha ha. I also LOVE to cook, and I just LOVE food…so yes, I agree, this diet can be difficult…but worth the results. Any suggestions for us thinner folk who want to lose 10 lbs or so? I know it can take longer when you are already thin…and often the first few lbs is water…anyone else who only needs to lose a few…any suggestions? 🙂 Is it better for us to do the 800 calorie diet? I’ve heard that before…
HCGChica says
Hey @Amber Brandenburg I hear you girl! It really can be frustrating to experience slow or no weight loss some days, but it really is quite normal and all part of the process. So glad you found the blogpost in time to save you from the breakfast buffet! :)- Yes I think my 3 best things as far as advice goes for thinner people on the protocol is
1. dosage is usually going to be on the low end for best hunger- so typically 125iu but you can read more about dosage here: http://hcgchica.com/hcg-dosage-how-should-feel-on-the-hcg-diet-when-you-are-on-the-right-dose/
2. Once best dosage is dialed in, it’s true that you may need to eat more than the 500 calories – Robin Woodall in her book Weight Loss Apocalypse noted that hCG seems to stimulate leptin levels which is responsible for that satisfied/not hungry feeling, but she did note that in thinner people, hCG can’t seem to stimulate these levels high enough sometimes to create the same non hunger effect as for heavier people- so if this happens for you, increasing calories on an AS NEEDED basis is usually best- but I wouldn’t blanket statement it with 800 cals a day- it’s more like you eat more as needed and you will find some days this will be just the 500 and then other days you might be hungrier and need more like 700. Take it day by day for best results I think.
3. Weight loss WILL usually be much slower- aside from the first week like you’re having now- so expect more like a .2-.3/lb per day once it’s averaged out over the course of your whole round- this is to be expected – I have an entire article that goes into detail about why this is normal in my workbook: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1505229219/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1505229219&linkCode=as2&tag=hcgchicacom-20&linkId=SNIF6IBV26HBOVSM
You don’t have to check it out of course, but basically it shows the logic behind how our daily calorie expenditure is not really high enough to produce a lb a day of weight loss if that makes sense. I hope that helps! – Rayzel
Amber Brandenburg says
Thanks for the reply. I really love your site and all the information and research, personal experiences, videos, and results of others as well. Its my new go to site for my hcg questions. I’m sure a TON of other people appreciate the work you put into creating this as well.. 🙂
Amber says
So if I increased my expenditure just a bit , will that kick up my weight loss ?
Amber Brandenburg says
For most people who saw me, I am pretty thin already and probably think I don’t need to do this…however, I model and my best weight for looking toned is around 120…I had gotten up to over 130 because of an injury and not being able to exercise. In the past, I did HCG and got down to 119 lbs. I am trying to get back into modeling…I know sometimes it takes a bit longer near your goal weight…esp. if you are already fairly thin…(any comments or suggestions on this?)……however, I have been at a stall the last 2 days and I didn’t know what the heck was going on as I didn’t cheat at all…I thought perhaps my body was getting immune to HCG because I did several rounds in the past unsuccessfully…cause I just LOVE food so much!…Anyway, I probably even ate less than 500 calories yesterday…even with all the food I was tempted with at a family funeral….so I was glad to come across this post…I was about to give up and have a big breakfast with eggs and toast, etc (sorry to put that picture in your minds fellow hcgers) ;)….but I thought I would Google something about the 800 calorie diet, and reasons for stalling…and I came across your site again…I totally forgot about “looking at the bigger picture”…upon re-examining…I started my VLCD only 5 days ago…and I’ve lost a total of 4 lbs…so actually, that averages out to .8lb a day…not bad. 🙂 Yet…I know in the beginning a lot of it is water weight…so…we’ll see…but I’ll stick to it and see what happens in the next few days…lol But any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I personally find this a very hard diet despite the awesome results…cause I love to cook and EAT! 🙂

R1 P2- Week 6
I have been so frustrated these past 2 weeks. I had to do an apple day to break a stall and thought I did but lost only 2 pounds then gained it back. 2 weeks I have not lost anything. I want to give up but then I think of all my progress and I have not been cheating at all. I don’t know what is going on. Why can’t I lose anymore weight. I have 3 more weeks and thought I was going to reach my goal of 50 lbs. But I have only lost about 30. Can I break a stall doing a fat fast day???? PLease help!!!!! 🙁

I have been very strict on the diet. I also have fibromyalgia and have to take several medications. I have been on the diet for 17 days now and have only lost 13 pounds. I also work out mon, wed, thurs and fridays for 20 minues on the power plate machine. I feel kind of frustrated that I have not lost more. I have a 17 month old and I put lotion on her everyday and I have very dry heels so I put vaseline on them with socks. other than that I have stuck to the protocol. I have coffee or green tea with breakfast and use stevia, i will have an apple or 1/2 a grapefruit and for lunch I have chicken breast that I make on the foreman grill with spinach cayenne pepper salt and apple cider vinegar and for dinner I usually have boiled chicken breast in 99.9% fat free and lower sodium broth with either kale or spinach. Sometimes for a snack I have a cucummber with salt and vinegar. I was using 2 tsp of non-dairy creamer has 0 fat and less than 1 gram of sugar but I stopped that. I am wondering why im not losing as much as I did when I first did the hcg 5 years ago? I am 42 years old.
kathyw says
Hi Diana, I would get an oil-free lotion (Neutrogena has one) for the baby; that’s what I use on my face and hands. Vaseline shouldn’t be an issue. Thirteen pounds is really good for 17 days!
Keisha Clay says
This is my 2nd time doing the HCG diet the first time I did it was October 2014 and I did 2 rounds and lost 30 pounds. Afterwards I gained about 10 pounds back due to letting too many starches and sugars back in my diet. I am on my 2nd VLCD and I am doing good with the hunger and drinking lots of water and following the plan, but this morning I noticed I was up a pound. Is this from the loading days maybe? Or do I need to change up what I’m eating?
HCGChica says
Hey @Keisha did you gain anything loading? Did you perhaps have more salt than usual, or do some form of exercise- could be water from one these things – most likely it will sort itself out.
Keisha Clay says
I gained about 1.5 pounds from loading and I did eat a lot of fatty foods during the loading days that probably made me retain water! Thanks for your feedback and your blog! It’s helped me so much.
Keisha Clay says
So I weighed this morning and I am down 3 pounds! Yay the loading weight is finally gone. Now just have to stay on plan and lose 15 by the end of this.

Weighing again on 4.6. one week later, I have only lost 2.2 lbs!
what I am I doing wrong? I have followed this diet strictly… Any ideas?
I’m discouraged!
Lori says
I am on day 19 of phase 2. I have only lost 3.6 lbs. I’m 5’7″, 135 lbs and 21.3 % body fat. I have done the diet 4 times in the last 5 years and have always had success, so I’m confident that I am doing it correctly. I have not cheated, I watch all supplements and all hygiene products but the diet is just not working for me this time. I feel irritable, tired and hungry this round and that has not been the case for me in the past. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
Cheresa Hanes says
Omg! You have almost my exact situation right now! I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried everything! Did you end up losing 2 months ago? I can’t seem to get any answers.
Anne says
HCG only helps you lose abnormal adipose fat. You probably don’t have any left! Or not enough to measurably make a difference on the scale. Check your measurements to see if you’re losing inches. But you may just be at the appropriate weight for your body, so it’s not budging.
I’m in the same boat, except I’m 5’7″ and 142. I’ve done a ton of research on this.
That’s all I can come up with. I am still losing inches, even though my scale doesn’t show anything.

Im on HCG have been on it for 2weeks and on the weekend I did major cheating!! I had gained 7 pounds in the gorging stage prior to starting the die, 4 days into the diet I has already lost it and was 2 ounds under my normal weight however after cheating I am now back at the weight I was when I was gorging. What should I do?!!!!? I need to loose this weight should I continue the injections or should I stop them so I can lose what I gained back from cheating? PLEASE HELP ME
Shall says
I am antibiotics for the last 12 day and my weight has barely budged. I am on day 34 and have lost 20.8 pounds. Should I continue on to day 42 or should I just start stabilization phase.
HCGChica says
Hey @Shall sorry to hear about this! I do seem to see that antibiotics in particular don’t seem to pair well with hCG. It might be best to start Phase 3 if you have to be on the antibiotics awhile longer still. Although 20.8 lbs in 34 days is actually an excellent ratio of weight loss per days on the diet. That is considered totally average.
Joseph Dickerson says
Its not uncommon to see a stall while on HCG but that does not mean you should feel discouraged, it usually passes after a few days, the best thing is to do an apple day or just continue with the protocol. Also having two glasses of warm water with apple cider vinegar seems to work wonders for some reason.
HCGChica says
You are on FIRE @Joseph Dickerson with commenting on my blog 😉 All good thoughts, thanks!
Joseph Dickerson says
I have stalled on three rounds on HCG, Phase 2, its nothing to worry about, stalling is normal according my physician. Also the big worry is Phase 3, those 3 weeks, and to many Phase 3 can be 4 to as many as 6 weeks depending upon your comfort level, is key. The second round, I went on vacation and forgot Phase 3 and forgot about watching starches and sugars but I went to an exotic foreign country and was consuming exotic sugary foods, which necessitated me doing a third round. Losing weight in Phase 2 is not an excuse to celebrate just yet.
Joseph Dickerson says
I think Apple Cider Vinegar with warm water can help with stalls, also an apple day, also green tea and coffee, all of these have a diuretic effect on the body. Most likely water retention is the reason for the “stall”.
Inpsired Girl - Barbara Yaffee says
This is all really helpful. It is important to realize that stalls are normal, and that days when you lose a full pound will be balanced out with stall days. Rayzel, have you ever tried the accelerator? I am trying it for the first time. My friend said she had great success with it, wondered what you thought of it?

How do you feel about combining hcg with raspberry ketones ?

@Holly Mackenzie you know it’s not something I’ve researched much, but I don’t think it probably hurts.
Kellye Frye says
Hi, I have been on the diet for 20 days and my weight is bouncing around. I’m only down an average of five pounds. I am trying to lose 25 lbs. mainly from my abdominal area and thighs. I have a abnormally high heart rate when standing, walking, etc. due to an autonomic issue, so I thought this would be the best way to lose the weight the illness has caused me to put on in the last year. I’m on two different meds for my heart rate which I know are not making it easy to lose the weight. I’ve been watching my carbs (more of the HCG 2.0 diet) and eating more protein. My appetite is suppressed and sometimes I forget to eat. My question is have you had anyone with similar issues as mine that is losing weight very slowly? If so, any advice?
HCGChica says
Hey @kellyefrye:disqus can I get some more details to see if I can pinpoint any possibilities?
1. What is your current height and weight?
2. How many calories are you eating on hCG? As far as I know the hCG 2.0 diet is more like 800 calories? Many do not lose nearly as well with this, so the lower weight loss is quite expected. Dr. Simeons actually said a diet of 800-1000 calories would cause weight maintenance on hCG, not weight loss.
3. What food list for phase 2 are you following? Or what I mean is, what foods in addition to the original diet list are you eating?
4. How is your sleeping? You are getting a full 8-10 hours a night?
5. Are there any P2 foods you’re eating on a daily basis that might be worth removing to see if you are having a food intolerance issue?
Kelly says
Thanks that helps a lot. I lost 32 lbs on my 1 st round . Then did phase 3 and 4 and stayed at the last weight. I started round 2 foe 4 weeks and didn’t loose anything, just maintained my weight. I am off the diet for now and going to start up in January. The only is that I am still loosing inches.
MiguelyGinger Martinez says
did u ever drink monster zero while doing p2? i seem to stall 3 days each time i drink one. it has zero calories and zero carbs. whats your thought on that? i have lost 40 lbs in 31 days.
HCGChica says
Hi @miguelygingermartinez:disqus No I haven’t. I did look up the ingredients, and the ingredient label lists Erythritol, Sucralose, and Maltodextrin as the sweeteners. The maltodextrin which is actually a starch may be proving to be a problem, or the erythritol because it’s a sugar alcohol and in some quantities can possible affect things for some on hCG, or both. So probably one or both of those ingredients. Sorry! And wow 40 lbs in 31 days?? How many lbs are you hoping to lose total by the end of your weight loss journey?
MiguelyGinger Martinez says
my first intial thought was i wanted to get down to 180 lbs. i started at 282. so 102 lbs was my first goal. but now that im down to 239 and im gonna do my last shot this round on fri 12/19/14
ive decided to continue as many rounds as needed to get down to 130 lbs..
im defiantly not drinking anymore monster zeros

Connie Settles says
I have a question that I haven’t seen addressed anywhere. I work straight night shifts. So if you have any tips or help for that aspect of how to start and follow an hcg diet, it would be greatly appreciated! When to do injects when to do meal times and whether anyone else out the is a shift worker that had been successful using the hcg diet! ? Thanks
HCGChica says
Hey @conniesettles:disqus – from time to time I do get emails from other ladies with similar schedule! I know that can make it more challenging. One thing some of these women have tried after we thought about it a bit, was taking their hCG shot at night instead of mornings- basically taking your hCG at the start of the period of time that you will be awake and most busy for the long period of hours following that is probably the best time to take your hCG. As far as meal times, you can adjust that accordingly as well- sometimes with these demanding schedules or people who are not getting as much sleep as others, it has seemed to wise to add in an additional protein serving as well (so this could end up being about 100 additional calories). I hope that helps a little- it can be done, I have communicated with a few like you! Let me know if doing it that way ends up making it more doable for you.
Meg Torelli says
I have this problem too- my boyfriend snores incessantly and I have always been an insomniac. I have actually gained weight I think due to my messy sleeping schedule. This is the first time I have failed losing during the protocol, and I think it can only be the times of my meals and injections!

I’m happy I read Maria’s post; I am at the same exact day and only lost 14 pounds, was very discouraged until I read HCCHICA’s reply. I knew it was almost impossible for women to lose that much that fast. The doctor I see told me the same thing, she praised my loss and doesn’t see it as failure like I did. I feel better now and will remain positive rather than fear the last leg of my injections. Thanks Girls!
HCGChica says
Hey Francie- hi again! Lol I just replied to your other comment – sorry it was late, but I see you already found the right perspective! I’m so glad you are feeling more positive- that is just so crucial to success on this protocol – you are achieving great things!

I’am so frustrated!! I have lost 14 pounds in 26 days. So I have 14 days left on HCG. Is it normal to go 9 days without losing then lose another 2 pounds then have another 2 days with the same weight? I have not cheated one single time and am about to do another Plateau. I am trying to be positive as I am very disappointed in my total weight loss. I’m still 13 pounds short of my goal. Please help… Very discouraged!!
HCGChica says
Hey +Maria – 14 lbs in 26 days is actually really good! I’m not sure why you are not happy? That’s a .53lb per day average- excellent and normal for a woman on hCG. Especially if you are only 13 lbs from goal, the weight loss will actually slow down even more most likely – there are some sites that say you can lose 1 lb per day, but I have found in women this is simply not true. Your stats are actually awesome!
