How long have you currently been maintaining (or where are you currently at in your hCG journey)?
I am doing my last 5th round. I have been able to maintain weight this entire time. With the exception of having a baby and putting on just a couple pounds. Hormones must have messed my set metabolism up a little I am guessing. Otherwise as long as I did maintenance right, I ALWAYS stayed at my goal weight no matter what I ate, lol well within reason. That doesn’t mean to bing eating. Be smart still.
Tell us how you came to be overweight and your struggles with that?
Growing up I was a pretty small little girl, but I was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. That being the case, I was put on a medication at a very young age in elementary school. It helped with the disorder, but I packed on 30 pounds in a year. For a child, that ridiculous!
By the time my parents realized what was going on, they took me off, but it was too late. The damage had been done, and my body was used too this weight and had set my metabolism at a young age. From that day forward, I was cursed with a larger figure. Middle school was torture, and high school didn’t prove to be much better.
After years of constantly being rejected by men and even women because of my weight, I developed an eating disorder, and not the skinny kind. I would just eat and eat and binge eat cause food equaled less pain. That being said, I then gained even MORE weight. The weird thing thou, is I did not know what all this extra weight was coming from. I was not able to put 2 and 2 together. By the time I dropped out of college due to depression, I had weighted a whopping 210 pounds!
For a woman that’s only 5’1, that’s pretty big. But being stocky and carrying my weight well, it didn’t look to bad. Well at least to other people it didn’t. To me I looked HORRIBLE! I was ready to give up!
Constantly eating to feel better about my weight, but then continued to pack on the pounds. Later on I decided to join a ministry in Kansas City, MO and figured out some things in my own personal life. I started to turn to Jesus with my problems and not food. So some weight did come off a little. Maybe around 15 pounds at the most, but my body would not let go of any more weight no matter how much I exercised! I had little confidence. Then my spiritual counselor who lead inner healing courses for Christian students lost a TON of weight out of no where. People began to ask questions, and that’s how I learned about the HCG diet!
Everybody on campus started doing this diet., and the transformation I saw in ALL of my friends who did it was incredible! People I had known for years that were big, were skinny! I couldn’t pass this opportunity up! I decided to learn about the diet from my counselor, and did the diet! And back then, there were not a lot of resources on it so I had little knowledge, but enough to do it correctly . Immediately after a 28 day kit, I dropped a ton of weight. I decided to stop there, but as time went on I thought, “ Maybe I can lose more, id it possible”? For me, it was worth trying. At that time I was down to 160lb.
Over time I had done the diet a few more times and now, people have a hard time believe I used to weigh what I did. I have never been more happy or confident as a woman in my life. I actually have curves! I actually have hip bones! Realistically they were always there, I just had to dig to find them lol!
What type of hCG did you use? If injections or prescription drops, what dose worked best for you?
Injections from one of the sites you actually recommended! My best dose was about the 20 marker whatever that is lol.
What would you say your experience was the first week on phase 2? Easy or hard? explain. Could also discuss how you loaded if you like. What parts of the protocol were easier for you and which parts were more challenging? How did you handle the challenging aspects?
The beginning was difficult, but that’s just apart of withdrawals of sugar n stuff and your body getting pissed cause its not getting what it is used too. After the first week it’s pretty so so. Not too bad.
The loading days sucked, cause even thou the food tasted good, you felt a little sick and clouded cause your eating crap. I did not do “clean” loading days. I just did fast food and crappy food. Lol I guess it’s safe to say, the hardest part of the diet are the first few days of 500 calories. I handled it by literally saying no to myself to any food that I couldn’t eat, drinking lots and lots of coffee with Stevia since it is a good appetite suppressant, keeping the water coming to help with hunger pains, and removing all temptations out of the kitchen. Literally emptied my cupboards and fridge of only what I needed. But seriously…..coffee coffee coffe. IT HELPS!!!!
What did you find yourself liking to eat during Phase 2/vlcd – how would you prepare your meals?
I loved asparagus, boiled with creol seasoning, and either chicken or beef. Liked the shrimp too. Apples with stevia have become an obsession even after the diet lol!
What tricks do you have up your sleeve to stay sane while on Phase 2?
Coffee! Lol! And keeping busy! Also I know this sounds kinda shallow, but I would look at pictures of women at the weight I want to be to remind me what I am doing this for. Keeping my eyes on the prize. Also what really helped was watching documentaries about food. HIGHLY RECOMMEND JOE CROSSES “Fat, sick and Nearly Dead” film. Good thing to watch while on the diet. You don’t feel alone and seeing his success story is a huge motivator to keep at it!!! TRUST ME!
Also having a goal event helps motivate you to stay on it. Like a cruise or special dance coming up that you want to dress up for and look good, or fit into that perfect dress.
What Lessons have you learned during Phase 3 – give us the good and the bad! What types of things did you discover when it came to maintenance that did and didn’t work?
Lessons I have learned are that what you put in your mouth really does effect your quality of life! If you eat crap, you’ll always struggle physically and mentally with a clouded mind.
In Phase 4: Can you tell us what types of foods you eat now in every day life? And how is this different from what you used to eat on a normal basis?
I defiantly eat more apples and produce. Your Body doesn’t just re-set its metabolism on this diet, it resets your cravings.
What have been your tools for maintaining your weight loss?
Eat slow, eat till your satisfied, choose larger amounts of good foods and smaller amounts of bad foods. So you can still enjoy and satisfy your cravings but not to the extent you used to or most people do. Remember, if it isn’t in your cupboards, your less likely to eat it at all. So make good decisions at the grocery stores!
Do you have any memories of your life/body pre hCG that are totally different for you now?
Not a ton of memories, cause im too busy with my new body and maintaining it. All I can truly remember is, I was so different than I am now, mentally and emotionally.
When you want a treat now, give us a couple examples of what you might eat? Also, are you ever able to indulge in a regular treat, like cake at a party, and still maintain?
Anything with sugar! I am a sugar addict! Occasionally something salty but sugar is my thing. Usually candy bars or donuts. Maybe liquorish at times. I am still able to maintain during my craving moments because I can still choose to have it, I just use portion control! If I want a candy bar, I will eat one no dought, but they do have smaller candy bars to choose from. Portion control is everything when it comes to bad foods.
What factors have you noticed to play a role in people NOT succeeding on hCG?
The biggest thing is NOT MENTALLY PREPARING! This is not just a “well see what happens, and ill just try it and see if it fits into my schedule” kind of diet. You have to want it above everything! If your not 100% there, don’t waist your time and money. You have to want it badly enough! Also doing your research and prepare prepare prepare. Lack of knowledge on this diet leads to stress, and stress leads to discouragement and giving up usually follows.
Also be smart about when you do the diet. Choose a time in your life that’s slow and routine That gives you the ability to totally focus on this life changing diet. Don’t start the diet if your about to start a new job, or take a big trip.
What do you feel are the most important keys to success on the hcg protocol? If someone said they want to have the same results you have, what would you tell them?
- Do your research!
- Prepare mentally
- Have a plan for the hard days, like an accountability partner, pictures of what you used to look like thin or want to look like, and supportive documentaries to remind you of why you are doing this.
- Do it during a non stressful time in your life!
