I’ve been getting this question a little more frequently so I figured I better get my bottom in gear and research your options a little better. Forgive me if I am clueless, as I do not have African American hair! 😉
Any absorption of MOST oils through the skin on hCG can cause problems with stalls. So most oils, even ones like castor oil, jojoba oil, etc. are something to steer clear of.
What Oil Based Products ARE okay:
Mineral oil based products.
- Mineral oil
- Baby oil
- Petroleum based Vaseline
This woman (unrelated to hCG) is finding that moisturizers that don’t contain oil are actually making her hair look better than the regular oil based products. She suggests aloe vera based products.
A possible in-between solution:
The real problem is with the oils getting on the scalp. So another possibility is to (wearing gloves of course!) use your regular hair product on the middle-ends of your hair, making sure it’s far enough away from your scalp that it won’t soak into it, and then use an oil free product or the mineral oil based product on your scalp area only. I know it’s probably not ideal, but at least it might suffice and look better than some of the other alternatives like no product whatsoever or something.
Lastly, some women that I read only reported that they didn’t experience any difference in weight loss when it came to using their usual products containing some oil vs. not doing so. So, in the end, it’s up to you if you want to be extra cautious, or if you feel like experimenting a little to see if it’s a problem for you or not.
