When it come to prescription hCG, it’s important that your vial of hCG comes to your home in powder form, NOT as a liquid. Why? Check my other post to learn why.
How does the pharmacy get the hCG into this form for you.
How Do They Do It? Turn hCG Liquid into hCG Powder? A Simple Waving of A Wand?
Basically a large mixture of hCG solution is decanted if you will, into all the individual vials (like the one you will get in the mail when all is said and done). At this point, it’s a liquid still. It then goes through a process called Lyophilization.
Lie-off-whaaaa? A guy-named-Phil?? Hold on a sec Mr. Not Fancy Pants.
Take a look at this pretty straightforward explanation of the process of Lyophilization (which is still quite greek to me) and then at these other more scientific definitions of Lyophilization (lie-off-fill-iz-ay-shun).
Lyophilization is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to improve and lengthen storage life and stability. To everyday people, Lyophilization is also known as freeze drying.
Let’s discuss the process further – hCG, in its liquid form, goes through a process that first freezes it. Then, it’s dehydrated or the water content is removed by bringing the frozen hCG’s temperature up in a special way that allows the moisture to escape from the vials as gas (instead of melting like an ice-cube). So basically, it turns from solid (frozen) to gas or vapor without going through a liquid phase. Pretty cool, huh?
After undergoing the process of lyophilization, all you have left is the freeze-dried hCG powder, which is now stable in that state as far as potency goes for quite some time.
Because of this process, hCG can then make it’s merry journey through the postal service to you even on a warm, sunny day, without degrading.
I have so much to relate to you all from my pharmacy tour so check out my other hCG Pharmacy 101 posts and find out more about the very strict processes that go into making real, potent, and safe hCG injections!
